Photography Pre-Trips in Southeastern Wisconsin 

See the wonders of Southeastern Wisconsin and augment your travel photography portfolio on one of three pre-trips sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism.  Warm up your skills before the start of the Institute.    

During these working photo trips, you will be able to see Wisconsin’s outdoor beauty and learn about some of our original thinkers. Images abound, both for stock and  editorial uses.  The trips include lunch and transportation.  Space on these  excursions are limited so RSVP today.   

Press trips begin at 8 a.m. Thursday, July 24, and conclude at 4 p.m. -- in time for the Institute's opening reception at the Milwaukee Press Club.   Discounted hotel rooms are available for Wednesday, July 23.  Registration deadline is July 11.  For more information and to RSVP,  e-mail your name, phone number and which trip you are interested in to Sarah Soczka at ssoczka@boelterlincoln.com. There may be the opportunity to sell some of your photographs to attractions visited on these trip. 

Itineraries: 

North of Milwaukee:

*  Museum of Wisconsin Art - Museum of Wisconsin Art features the finest survey collection of historic Wisconsin art (1800-1960) as well as the works of Milwaukee-Munich artist Carl von Marr. 

*   Port Washington Marina – This historic fishing village is centered around a bustling marina, home to commercial fishing vessels, salmon charters and private boat tours.

* Cedar Creek Winery – Housed in a converted 1860s wool mill, award-winning Cedar Creek wines are sold throughout the region. 

West of Milwaukee:

*   Holy Hill – This Catholic Basilica and monastery has drawn religious pilgrims and tourists for more than a century

*   Erin Hills Golf Course - In January of 2007, Golf Magazine rated Erin Hills "Best New Course of the Year." Erin Hills will host the 2008 USGA Women’s Amateur Public Links event.

*   Ten Chimneys Foundation – This National Historic Landmark was the summer home of Broadway legends Alfred Lunt and Lynne Fontanne whose guests included stars like Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracey. 

South of Milwaukee

*   Kenosha Civil War Museum – Opening in June, 2008, this museum is unlike any history lesson you had in high school.  Visitors travel back in history to the social, political and economic influences that contributed to the Civil War. 

*   Electronic Streetcar Circulator - Five beautifully restored electric streetcars travel a two-mile loop, providing a scenic tour of the Lake Michigan shoreline, HarborPark, two historic districts, downtown business district and the METRA train station.

*   Kenosha Public Museum – This natural history and fine decorative arts museum includes the Schaefer mammoth dig and Hebior mammoth replica.  The actual Schaefer mammoth bones are set in a floor display as they were found on the Schaefer farm in Paris, Wis.
