Seminar # 1A - Agents & Agencies: Selling the Old Outlets while Exploring New Ones
Paul Henning, a consultant to photographers
and stock houses, will discuss the state of the marketplace and how
to work it to best advantage. For "newbies," should you get
involved in stock and what should you be shooting? For "oldies,"
how to increase revenues: which images are the most salable? Should
you work with a stock agency, online distributor or sell directly?
Seminar # 1B: "Tracking and Capturing the Elusive Photo Agent"
Jennifer LaFond, JLa Creative Management,
Dallas, will explain the duties and responsibilities of a photography
agent; how to find an agent; the plus and challenges of working with
an agent; contractual arrangements; what determines a good agent;
and what the agent expects of a photographer. She will also hold 10-minute
"Perfect Your Pitch" personalized sessions with the first
10 photographers who register for the service.

Seminar # 2 Digital Photography for Writers:
FLC members Michael DeFreitas and
Ellen Barone, pros from the SATW photo council, will address some of
the basics of digital photography with tips on getting the most out
of your digital cameras. The workshop will discuss basic composition
and will address some simple techniques that apply to SLR or Point-and-Shoot
cameras - including tips on how shooting raw or the best quality
jpeg can improve the life and quality of your images, which white balance
settings to use in certain situations, shutter and aperture priority,
fill flash, and more.

1:00-3:30 p.m. - 10 10-minute personal consultation with Jennifer LaFond.
She recommends the following components
be included in your presentation: Physical Portfolio - showing
off your unique style; Any tangible marketing materials you have developed
current and archived; Any tangible tear sheets or samples of past projects;
Overview of your career and future goals as a photographer's; Past experience;
official client list and references; Photography capabilities (ie. Digital
equipment, formats, film, studio etc.); and any other tangible or intangible
uniqueness you as a photographer bring to the table.

Seminar # 4 Travel Photography as Art:
Fine art photographer, author and
attorney Sharon Collins brings her unique perspective to this seminar
focusing on the nuts and bolts of using travel photography as art.
She will discuss the wide range of uses for travel photography, share
tips on marketing strategies and presentation, and touch on business
essentials.

Seminar # 3 Managing & Processing Images Using Adobe Lightroom:
Carrie Hoelzer of the University
of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Peck School for the Arts will introduce Adobe
Photoshop Lightroom 2.0 and demonstrate its impressive capacity
to manage the digital workflow, to organize, edit, and share images.
Lightroom allows you to easily compare multiple images, make tonal changes
and share your images via prints, the web and through the creation of
dynamic Adobe Flash online galleries, workflow and manipulate images.

Seminar # 7A Choosing the Right Camera for You:
Several camera industry representatives,
hosted by the Mike Crivello Camera Centers, will be on hand to showcase
their latest models and how they can be used by the travel photographer.
Seminar #7B The Art of the Editor
Denise Ishnor, art director of Trails
Magazine, Madison (WI) photographer Bob Rashid and an agency art director
(TBA) will discuss the relationship between editor and photographer;
how photos are presented; the dynamics of working with writers and clients;
and related issues.
6:00 - pickup at Straz Towers and
Doubletree Hotel for Gallery Night
6:15-7:30 p.m. - walk through and
photograph exciting downtown scenes during Gallery Night when studios
around Milwaukee open their doors to guests. We will concentrate
on the Old Third Ward old warehouse district which has several
dozen internationally recognized art galleries, along with restaurants
and bars. The tour starts at the VP Fine Art Photo Gallery
with its large collection of art photography, many of which are "travel"
themed. You need to bring your camera for this shoot.
7:30 p.m. - pick up at VP Fine Art
Photo Gallery for ride to German Fest on Milwaukee lakefront festival
grounds. The festival is one of the world’s largest German cultural
events outside Europe and is one of the city’s major ethnic exhibitions.
The grounds cover almost 60 acres of permanent pavilions, stages, open
air entertainment, food booths and beer halls along Lake Michigan.
7:45-10:30 - night shooting at German
Fest; each registrant will receive a $10 food coupon for use on the
grounds. Look for crowds, bands, stage lighting, fireworks, folk
costumes, dancers and strolling musicians. Registrants are welcome
to stay late at the festival or remain downtown (you can return on your
own via the Wisconsin Avenue shuttle bus operated by the Milwaukee
County Transit System or a cab)
